Cervia
What: Cervia is a device that uses computer vision to bring gynecological care to the home, offering a more comfortable and less anxiety-inducing way to monitor vaginal health.
How: Computer vision enables Cervia's camera to recognize potential abnormalities inside the user's vaginal canal
Why: People avoid visiting the gynecologist due to negative experiences and associations, causing them to miss crucial screenings.
By bringing care to the home, users get the screening they need in a more comfortable and familiar setting.
Background
The modern version of the speculum, the main tool used in gynecological exams, was designed in the late 1800s. It is notoriously uncomfortable, even causing extreme pain for some women, which leads to them avoiding visits to the gynecologist.

Design Process
This project was developed over the course of 5 months. The first step of my design process was sketching and form exploration based on the anatomy of the vaginal canal. I then moved to clay models, ultimately taking inspiration from a variety of my ideations.

The Form

User Experience
Cervia makes at home exams easy. The user simply has to connect the device to their phone, insert the camera into their vaginal canal, and then observe the camera feed on their phone. They can use Cervia to take an image of the cervix which is analyzed on the app using computer vision.
